The Canine Side-Eye Stare — what's it all about?

The side-eye is an intriguing expression.

Is it curiosity? Annoyance? Laziness?

Dogs often stare at us to detect cues of communication.

It's likely that a side eye stare is their curiosity at what you're doing.

And not wanting to miss an opportunity to grab the leash and go outside!

The side eye can also be a sign of wariness & caution.

This is typically done around other unfamiliar dogs when trying to discern if they're a threat.

Another possibility is playfulness.

A quick glance from the side of their eye can mean they're ready to play!

A side eye stare can also be a sign of a medical condition that needs attention.
