Bite Force of Working Dogs

Working dogs such as the Belgian Malinois are often trained to bite for protection & criminal interdiction.

Bite force is generated by different parts of the dog's jaw structure.

The size of the dog's body, skull & jaw all influence this.

Where the dog engages also affects the power behind the bite.

If the back molars are able to engage rather than the front teeth, the bite will be significantly stronger in force.

Bite force is typically measured in PSI (pounds per square inch).

Studies have been done in both alive & deceased dogs to understand the avg. bite force.

Using a bite sleeve fitted with sensors, researchers were able to determine the avg. bite force of a Belgian Malinois.
